Children's Hunger for Learning

Children are amazing little people. Sometimes I wish that I had a child's ambition and enthusiasm. They are constantly on the go. It is crazy how much energy they have. Children believe that they can conquer anything.

What do we need to attribute to this? I tend to believe that this is because of their hunger for learning. They might not admit it, but they constantly want to learn how to do everything. There is no stopping them. The world is huge and gigantic to them. They want to know everything about it. It doesn't matter to them how they find out about it.

Games are a great way to feed the hunger that a child has to learn. They are a great way for families to spend time together and learn something at the same time. There are a lot of educational games that are out there. For example, my children love numbers and reading. So, they like to play Jr. Scrabble and Yahtzee. The girls learn how to make words, write and add their numbers, and learn how to take turns. It is also nice for them to know the art of sportsmanship. They get to know that it is okay not to always be the winner. They learn that it is about having fun and not winning.

There are so many games that help children to learn. It can be counting, reading, matching, or even trivia. Children are never to young to start learning to play these games. My children were one when I first introduced them to matching card games. They love playing and constantly want to learn more. It is great because they look at it as having fun. They don't look at it like it is a learning process. Because of this, they are always hungry for more.

The more fun we can make things, the more children will want to do. I like to teach my children through cooking and baking as well. Here they learn about following directions and making sure things are done correctly. My girls love to learn how to use measuring spoons and how to mix ingredients together. It is a fun way to interact with them and they love to see the finished product. I want to teach them in every way that I can. I just don't want them to get bored with different techniques. I want them to keep their minds open to new ideas and learning experiences.

My husband also help feed their learning hunger. He helps by teaching them responsibility and self-control. We have miniature horses and he helps the girls take care of them. The girls learn how to care for other creatures in the world. They ask questions when they don't know how to do something and ask for help when things are too hard for them. It is wonderful watching the love and respect that they give to the horses when they are out working with them. It is truly amazing how children can learn by doing different things in life.
